NICCOLO COTURRI Sun Beach Road Siegerrebe Lopez Island 2024

$40.00

Siegerrebe, an aromatic white grape with richly pigmented blushy skins that we farm as family on Lopez Island.

During the sunny growing season (June - September), we live in a tent with the vines. This allows the whole family to be together to work the vineyard without a daily (beautiful but long) inter-island boating commute. 2024, while magical to experience with kids playing amongst the vines while we tended them, was a tough one. While we were gearing up to have what seemed to be our most beautiful and bountiful harvest since being to work the land three years prior, Mother Nature had other thoughts, and torrential August rains left us watching from our damp tent as fruit not yet ripe enough to pick began to literally rot on the vine.

There was nothing we could do but wait for a bit more maturation, then pick what we could, and hope for the best. Luckily, though we lost about 75% of the crop, Nic was able to coax maximum beauty from the remaining grapes, finding at the end of the line a fresh wine of bright and nuanced fruit, with a hard line of minerality that shines extra brightly through the low, low alcohol of 9.5%.

Like previous vintages, the wine was macerated on its skins to add a delicate blush of color, a faint twist of tannin, and to amplify the heady aromatics. We are so proud of this wine. Different than former years, it’s brighter and zingier, treading that perfect line between Delicate and Substantial. It’s delicious, and there isn’t much of it. Enjoy it while you can!

Label art by our dear friend local artist Glenn Hendrick.
